6 Tips To Unblock Your Creativity!
Are you stuck in a creative rut? Read on!
As an artist, it is probably inevitable that you will arrive at a certain point where you struggle with your creativity / creative projects. We all get there. We search for ways to get creatively inspired and motivated again, and when this fails, we become frustrated and sometimes, we give up. It’s time to battle the block!
With me, personally, it was with music (multiple instruments), then photography and then writing.
Over the years, I’ve realized that there are certain techniques that I’ve used that seem to help me free myself from this ditch and become inspired again!
I’m gonna share them with you today.
Switch the type / style / genre of the art.
E.g. from rock music to jazz music
from portrait photography to landscape photography
from writing poems to writing narratives
Take a break from the art.
E.g. Give the paint brush a break for a few days / weeks.
Try something new.
It is okay to try something new for some time. This could be very inspiring.
E.g. If you are a chef, perhaps you could take some dance classes, or try your hand at painting!
Collaborate with others in your field.
It is a great practice to meet up with a friend or a few (in the business) to have a jam, a cook out, a dance off / practice, a paint n sip session etc. You’d be surprised at how quickly you can become inspired to create again!
Take some time to discover some new singers, dancers, painters, chefs, sculptors, actors- you name it!
It will be fresh and new, and your creative spark will be ignited again.
Take a break (from the usual).
Maybe you’ve reached a point in your life where it’s time for a good, refreshing vacation. It’s periodically needed. I’ve increasingly grown to understand and experience why they’re super important for everyone- artists and non-artists.
Generally speaking, vacations allow one to relax and enjoy some free time / self time / family time and whatever-they-decide time. You are ALLOWED to not think about anything work/career related AND have a great time!
Did anybody say win-win? ;)
What do you do when you are stuck?
Thanks for reading.
Until next time,
